3-MeO-PCE or N-ethyl-1-(3-methoxyphenyl)cyclohexan-1-amine is classified as an arylcyclohexylamine drug. Arylcyclohexylamine drugs are named for their structures, which include a cyclohexane ring bonded to an aromatic ring along with an amino group. 3-MeO-PCE contains a phenyl ring with a methoxy substituent (CH3-O-) at R3 bonded to the cyclohexane ring. An aminoethyl chain -NCH2CH3 is bonded to the same carbon (R1) of the cyclohexanone ring. 3-MeO-PCE, like MXE, contains an aminoethyl chain rather than the aminomethyl chain found in DCK and ketamine. 3-MeO-PCE is analogous to MXE but does not contain an R2-substituted ketone. It is also homologous to 3-MeO-PCP but lacks the extra carbon atoms to complete the piperidine ring.
